Question?

So as a reader what kind of characters do you gravitate to? Drop me a line or post a comment. Let's get a discussion going!

I think it depends on the book. If it's a light romance, I would expect the characters to be fun. If it's historical, I'd expect a strong heroine and a more-than-capable hero who's not afraid to love a woman and still be a macho warrior. There are a lot of character types. I like mine suitable for the plot. If that makes sense. Personally, I like a badass with a heart of gold :-D

Kem I agree it does really seem to be a "genre" choice. I ask because I got into a conversation the other day with a reader and she didn't care what genre she was reading, she had a very decided view on how she wanted her characters. I find it interesting what readers prefer or gravitate to.

Sounds to me like that reader is very narrow minded. Where's the adventure? Every one has a different look and personality in real life. It should be the same with characters. We may have our personal preferences of who Mr/Ms Right is and it's fine to read books with characters who resemble that. But to only read that? Borders on obsessive IMO.

I agree with you. Each person is different, each story is different so I'd think that as a reader you'd be open to various personality traits and what have you. I mean if everyone was sarcastic and self assured like Iron Man, then his personality wouldn't stand out...

LOL My brother in law's nickname is Iron Man (he vaguely looks like Robert Downey).

Hey, every hero can be a little Iron Man in his own way. He doesn't need 14 flying suits or to fight international terrorists. But it's totally cool if he just has jeans and a teeshirt and fights for justice his own way, even if it's just to keep peace in his own neighborhood.
